“I will get strong. I will return,” vows Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
Gabby Giffords is one of the few Arizona Democrats in Congress. It’s been over 10 months since she was seriously wounded when a gunman shot her in the head, and took the lives of six people, while Giffords was speaking to community members. Thirteen others were wounded.
“Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope” is her memoir that tells the story about her life, from her marriage, her political career, her husband’s career as an astronaut, being shot, and her road to recovery. The book will be released on Nov. 15. People Magazine will have an excerpt from the book published this Wednesday (Nov. 9). The book was penned by her husband, recently retired astronaut Mark Kelly.
One of the most frightening aspects for Giffords, from Talking Points Memo, is when she realized she couldn’t speak. Kelly wrote that her eyes were wide with panic and that she was crying uncontrollably when she realized the effect of the brain damage.
Giffords is still recovering from the injury, which had damaged part of her brain. That said, all accounts from doctor, family, and friends say that her recovery is going very well. She is undergoing therapy at TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Giffords will also be narrating the audio version of the book.
