Mariah Yeater's Mug Shot from the Las Vegas Police Department
Mariah Yeater, the California woman who claims 17-year-old pop star Justin Bieber fathered her child, has dropped the paternity suit.
Bieber and his defense team played hardball, threatening to counter-sue if the paternity tests proved that Bieber was not the father. Bieber was touring in Europe at the time of the accusation.
Speculations run wild, but it seems that the paternity suit was just a bad strategy overall. On the one hand, if Bieber isn’t the father (a likely scenario) Bieber’s countersuit would have put Yeater in the negative. On top of that, if it was true she could be charged for statuitary rape, as Bieber was under 18, and she was 19 or 20 when the 30-second “incident” happened.
Facing these possibilities, Yeater dropped the claim quietly in a California court and her lawyers have stopped representing her. She will be heading to Las Vegas soon to defend herself against allegations of battery against a former boyfriend.
This ex-boyfriend has told news outlets that Yeater’s accusations are a scam. It is unclear whether Yeater’s battery charges are related to the boyfriend’s words to news outlets.
Yeater claimed Bieber impregnated her in October 2010, and she gave birth to her son in July 2011.
